In simple words

•We collect very little: your phone number and WhatsApp name if you join our WhatsApp group, and your name, contact and message if you use our contact form.
•We use it only to tell you about CarboWallet and to answer you.
•We do not sell your data. We do not show ads.
•You can leave the group and ask us to delete your number at any time. See How to delete your number.
•This policy follows India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).

1. Who we are

CarboWallet helps small farmers in India measure and certify the carbon their farming keeps in the soil. In this policy, "we", "us" and "CarboWallet" mean the CarboWallet team. Under the DPDP Act, we are the "Data Fiduciary": the one who decides why and how your personal data is used. You are the "Data Principal": the person the data is about.

2. What information we collect

(a) When you join our WhatsApp group: your phone number and your WhatsApp profile name (and your profile photo if your WhatsApp settings show it to us). Anything you write or send in the group.

(b) When you use the contact form on this website: your name, your phone number or email, and your message.

(c) Basic technical data that our website host may record automatically, such as IP address and browser type, to keep the site safe and working. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

We do not ask for your Aadhaar, bank details, land records or location on this website or in the WhatsApp group.

3. Why we use your information

•To add you to our WhatsApp group and send you updates about CarboWallet and the farmer pilot.

•To answer your questions and messages.

•To tell you about meetings or events that you may want to join.

•To keep the website and the group safe, and to follow the law.

We use your data only for these reasons. If we want to use it for something new, we will ask you first.

5. The WhatsApp group: what others can see

WhatsApp is run by Meta, not by us. In a WhatsApp group, other members can usually see your phone number and profile name. Please do not share your OTP, Aadhaar number, bank details, land documents or other private information in the group. Group admins can see who is in the group and can remove members. If someone breaks the group rules, we may remove them. WhatsApp's own privacy policy applies to how WhatsApp handles your data.

7. How long we keep your information

We keep your data only while you are in our WhatsApp group or while we need it to answer you. When you ask us to delete it, or when the reason for keeping it is over, we delete it within 30 days, unless the law says we must keep it for longer.

8. Your rights under the DPDP Act

You have the right to:

•Know what personal data of yours we hold and how we use it.

•Ask us to correct or update your data.

•Ask us to delete your data.

•Take back your consent at any time. It is as easy to take back as to give.

•Make a complaint if you are not happy (see section 13).

•Name another person to use these rights for you if you cannot, for example in case of illness or death.

To use any of these rights, contact us as shown in sections 9 and 13.

How to delete your number and leave our WhatsApp group

Step 1:

Leave the group yourself (fastest). Open the WhatsApp group, tap the group name, scroll down and tap "Exit group". You will stop getting messages straight away. This does not yet delete the number we have saved, so please also do Step 2.

Step 2:

Send us a delete request. Do one of these:

Send a WhatsApp message from the same phone number to 919096076425 saying: "Delete my data".

Message us on WhatsApp

Or email hello@carbowallet.com with the subject "Delete my data" and write your phone number in the email.

Step 3:

We check it is you. We will reply to the number you messaged from. We will never ask for your OTP, Aadhaar or bank details.

Step 4:

We remove you and delete your data. We remove you from the WhatsApp group within 7 days and delete your phone number and details from our records within 30 days. Then we send you a message to confirm.

Please note: messages you already sent in the group may still be on other members' phones. We cannot delete those. We will delete your messages from our own records and ask group admins to remove them from the group if you ask us to.

10. Children

Our WhatsApp group and contact form are for adults (18 years or older). If you are under 18, please do not join without a parent or guardian. If we find out we hold the data of a child without a parent's consent, we will delete it.

11. Keeping your information safe

We keep your data in accounts protected by passwords, and only the team members who need it can open it. If there is a data breach that affects you, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.

12. Data stored outside India

WhatsApp and some of our service providers may store data on servers outside India. We choose providers that protect data, and we share only what is needed.

13. Questions or complaints

We will reply within 7 days. If you are still not happy, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India. They normally expect you to try our complaint process first.

14. Our future app

Right now this policy covers this website and our WhatsApp group only. When the CarboWallet app launches and we collect farm details such as land records, photos or location, we will show you a separate notice and ask for your consent before we collect anything.

15. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. For big changes we will also tell group members on WhatsApp.
